This past June, Westwood Tennis Center received funding from the Norman Forward account of $1,000,000. The project includes two new lighted outdoor courts which will be located east of court 1 making the new courts feel like a bank of three courts similar to courts 10-12. New shade structures for the players will be installed in between these three courts along with spectator seating east of the two new courts next to the play ground equipment. In addition, the existing spectator patio for the youth courts will serve as a shaded viewing opportunity for the two courts. Merritt Courts, Inc has been awarded this project and construction will begin this September weather permitting.
In addition to the two outdoor courts, courts 6-7 will be converted into climate controlled indoor courts. The building type will feature a new state of the art pvc material similar to the Oklahoma City Tennis Center building. If budget allows, we will also have a viewing deck. These new indoor courts will allow the public to continue play during the winter and rainy days. It will also allow tennis instruction to be year-around. Construction is hoping to begin early 2017.
